October Quilt Update

Welcome to the Monthly Update.  What does that mean?  Well, it's just little ol me trying to recap what took place during the month so that I can keep track.  I kind of use it like a journal.  Please sit back and enjoy a peek into a month of my life.

Any links that you click in this post will open in a DIFFERENT window, allowing you to continue reading this without losing the page.

The previous 2017 monthly update links are located at the end of this entry.  I hope that you make it that far.

Goals:

Easy Street (ES) - bound - YES
Garden Party (GP) - quilted and bound -
Midnight Flight (MF) - blocks made
BOM (blue) quilted and bound -
BOM (Thimbleberries)  quilted and bound -
BOM (pink) quilted and bound -

1st  -  It's October!!!  I truly think this is my favorite month of the whole year.  The weather is cooler and, well, it's anniversary month.  What could be better?  It's also Mystery Reveal month.  That means I have such excitement all around me.  It would be even better if I had my quilt finished, but this year has just been crazy for me.  I'll stay ahead of ya'll, but just barely.

Mister and I are starting out the month by attending the fair.  Yes, it was even his idea this year.  What that means for us is checking out all the vendor booths and the exhibits.  What is doesn't include is the midway.  We stay as far from that as possible.  You can read all about our day in this FAIR LINK but I will share the quilts here.  Just the pictures, as the fair really doesn't offer up much information.  I did get each person's name in their picture and I only took pictures of some of the blue ribbon winners and the Best of Show.  Enjoy.

The one I REALLY loved is on the left - the log cabin Christmas Tree.  This is a small wall hanging.  The logs are so tiny and, oh my, the time that had to have gone into planning out each one so that the candles landed in just the right place.  I absolutely am in awe of this.  Oh to be good enough to replicate it.  Perhaps some day, when I grow up.

On Ringo Lake - Introduction - Bonnie Hunter - Mystery Quilt

It's here, it's here.  I feel like a little girl who was just given the toy she wants oh so much.  It's time to play.  Well, alright.  It's time to start thinking about playing.  Happy Halloween to us!  (You can read all about it on Bonnie Hunter's blog at this LINK.)

The name of the mystery is On Ringo Lake --- I know -- you never would have guessed that without me telling you.  It's only in the title of the post AND on her picture.

I LOVE the colors and the serenity of it all.  The best part is that I have had my fingers crossed for something with dark brown in it and my wishes have come true.  Throw in the aqua and coral and oh my goodness, how lovely is this.   The worst part of today?  I don't have a car and can't go running straight to Lowe's to get my paint cards.  Arghhhh.  What to do?  What to do?

A nice surprise happens around 3 when my sweetie says he is coming home from work early.  Woot woot.  I'll have time to run to Lowe's and still get back in time to hand out candy to the trick or treaters.

At Lowe's, I am a woman on a mission.  Straight to the paint department -- quick scan and five of the 6 cards are easy peasy.  The last one is out of stock and with a quick glance, I spot a folder that has all the whites in it, snag it and out the door I go.  No, I don't feel guilty.  I spend a ton in that store each month.

Huffhines Art Trails Treasures

We are out and about today at a new-to-us art festival.  Huffhines Park in Richardson has been hosting this for 41 years now and I'm excited to see creativity in abundance.  As usual, there are two posts about this and one is in my personal blog and will highlight different things than this one.  You can access it HERE.

A Day At The Beach - Clue 9 - Finale

WOW!!!!!  WE have made it to the end.  Together!!!  I hope you have had a great time and that you are just one to two afternoons from being ready to quilt this beauty.  Well, at least I think she is a beauty.

I'd love to tell you not to scroll to the end, but I know you've already been there.  I'll even bet you didn't pay much attention along the way so, PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY TO THE END before starting this last clue.

I would REALLY like to see your finished tops/quilts.  Please email me at mystery@dhayter.com and attach the pictures.  I'll share them on the blog.

Billings Quilt Shop Return

A couple of years ago while up in Montana, I did a shop hop around Billings and found some great little quilt stores.  Four Winds Quilting was one that I stopped in back then and wrote a a post about it that you can access through this LINK.

Today, I have a few hours to kill and decide to stop  in again.  It truly is a fun shop and I always come out with new ideas.  Upon entering the store, I spot a fall wall hanging right by the door that is super cute.  With fingers reaching out, I'm not sure it is cotton (although I am assured that it is) as it has the feel of brushed corduroy.  Not matter, it's very eye-catching and the pattern finds it's way into my arms.

A Day At The Beach - Clue 7

In the words of  the Steve Miller Band, "Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin' into the future."  At least it feels that way for me right now.  It seems like each time I blink, another clue is being released.  Am I typing fast enough?

Welcome to week 7.  I bet you're thinking that we must be getting close now.  Well, we are, but not just yet.  This week we are going to put some of those bits you've been working on into use.  I can see you nodding your head.  Yep, I'm glad too.

PLEASE READ ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE CLUE BEFORE BEGINNING.

October Brazos Retreat - Our Witchy Quilt World

It's been almost 5 months since this wonderful view was mine.  Hello there, old friend.  It's so good to see you again.

The time has come for our October retreat entitled, "Our Witchy Quilt World."  With a late arrival, I arrive around 10:30 and start racing like crazy to get set up by noon when the ladies will begin walking through the door.  Luck is on my side and I make it just in time.  As soon as most of the participants are there, we are off to Babes for lunch.  Imagine our surprise when we discover that a table is already being held for us and occupied by Jennifer M. and Jennifer S.  What crazy fun is this?  They decided to drive down and have lunch with us.  I LOVE IT!
