May 2018 Quilt Update

Welcome to the Monthly Update.  What does that mean?  Well, it's just little ol me trying to recap what took place during the month so that I can keep track.  I kind of use it like a journal.  Please sit back and enjoy a peek into a month of my life.

Any links that you click in this post will open in a DIFFERENT window, allowing you to continue reading this without losing the page.

So . . . . If you have followed me in the past, you know that I have set CRAZY goals each month and it's tough when they just don't happen.  I think goals are wonderful - believe me, without them I fear my lack of  movement.  The thing is -- I just don't want another year of unattainable goals making me feel stressed.  I have a busy year ahead with lots of surprises, family happenings, and retreats.  Those items alone give me PLENTY of deadlines to deal with.  As a result, I am introducing the new goal section - hahahaha, it's the same, only reasonable.  Let's hit the ground running . . . or not.  How about a hot drink and a good read?  See, life is good.  Oh, and the goals each month are at the end of the post now.

The previous 2018 monthly update links are located at the end of this entry.  I hope that you make it that far.

1st -  Recovering!  Does that word say enough?  We have just returned from our European trip and need several days to just catch our breath and not walk.  I know, I know.  Now that we are in a bit of shape, we should keep walking, but dang --- we're tired.  Groceries are necessary and that lets me stop at Tuesday Morning for a quick peek.  Everyone is posting all about the ad regarding precuts and, sure enough, my store is packed too.  However, I walk away with just a picture.  (Patting myself on the back here.)

BLRC Sew Day With Friends

This has been a whirlwind month so far and it seems as though the last thing I would need is a day retreat.  However, I believe that a day sewing with friends is therapeutic and getting through this month will require all the therapy I can get.

Thus, I am off to the Best Little Retreat Center for a day with friends.  When we arrive, we grab a corner table and start stacking us in.  I have only brought handwork with me so a table is just not really required.  For the morning, we visit and stitch away.  It's so good to see some ladies I haven't seen in awhile and I'm loving the good feeling.

Around 11 I get dresses for a Red Hat event and will be back in a couple of hours.  If you want to see just what I did, click on THIS LINK.  In my own way, I'm saying that my camera didn't come out to play until I returned from that event.  I was just enjoying the time with friends.

While I was away, the rest went to lunch together and DID take a picture to share.

Upon my return back at BLRC, Lori is the only one sewing away and shortly after that she left for awhile too.  I look over at her station and have to smile as she has put her lady down for a nap while she is away.  The only thing this scene needs is for the soft blankie to be Red Sox too.

Weatherford Workshop With Maria

At retreat last weekend, Maria mentioned that she was short an assistant for her upcoming workshop.  Well, after checking my calendar, it appears I'm free for the day and can go help so it's an early morning trip to Weatherford and a start time of 8:30 a.m.  Somehow I manage to actually arrive early -- how I  missed all that 8 a.m. traffic, I'll never know -- and have a bit of time to kill.  That means a stop at Gibson's for a look around.

Yes, Gibson's Ace Hardware.  I've spotlighted them before but it's been a few years.  What a great stop.  I'm still being good and not buying fabric, but, OH, I want to.

May I Remember When Brazos Retreat

10th - And we are off.  Welcome to the new ladies.  At least  you have power.  Be thankful for the small things in life.

I even managed to clean my corner of the world before this starts.  I know -- shock, shock to everyone. The truth is, I haven't really done enough to create too big of a mess.

We have a group project starting tomorrow requiring a LOT of cutting today.  I feel for those girls and am so glad I finished mine at home.  Yes, we were supposed to make these during tweener time, but it just didn't happen.  Tomorrow is the day.   And, of course, Bingo is already off and running.

May Tweeners - Brazos House

I am up in Utah for the beginning of Tweener Time but my faithful friends have sent me pics to tide me over.  Tweeners are those who stay "between" the retreats (for an additional fee) and just hang out.  It's relaxing, book reading, quiet sewing, lazy time for most of us.  Several have to work from here, though, so we keep it pretty quiet during the day.

6th -  Lots of TA-DA's for today.

May Cinco de Mayo Retreat

May has arrived and with it are mixed emotions.  It means 10 days of retreat but it also means the end of retreats here until October.  That is such a long time.  I want to soak it all in and yet I'm really not feeling up to snuff this go round.  I will make the best of it and enjoy as much as I can.  Life is just too short not to savor these precious moments.

3rd - As I drive into the Brazos House property, off to the left I spot Fatsy having a nap.  Apparently she really is a free range pig these days.  In my room, a curtain hook has jumped off the wall.  Hmmm - is this an omen of what is to come?

I am the first one to arrive, followed shortly after by Debi and then Val.
