March 2018 Quilt Update

Welcome to the Monthly Update.  What does that mean?  Well, it's just little ol me trying to recap what took place during the month so that I can keep track.  I kind of use it like a journal.  Please sit back and enjoy a peek into a month of my life.

Any links that you click in this post will open in a DIFFERENT window, allowing you to continue reading this without losing the page.

So . . . . If you have followed me in the past, you know that I have set CRAZY goals each month and it's tough when they just don't happen.  I think goals are wonderful - believe me, without them I fear my lack of  movement.  The thing is -- I just don't want another year of unattainable goals making me feel stressed.  I have a busy year ahead with lots of surprises, family happenings, and retreats.  Those items alone give me PLENTY of deadlines to deal with.  As a result, I am introducing the new goal section - hahahaha, it's the same, only reasonable.  Let's hit the ground running . . . or not.  How about a hot drink and a good read?  See, life is good.  Oh, and the goals each month are at the end of the post now.

The previous 2018 monthly update links are located at the end of this entry.  I hope that you make it that far.

1st -  March definitely roared in like a lion last night.  Wow.  I do love storm season.  Speaking of seasons - we are entering spring here in Texas and I do love the beauty of everything in bloom.  It will be a colorful month and to start it out right, another step in the Quilt-A-Long begins today.  I am certainly loving this Texas Tumbleweeds event.  Within a couple of hours, I have it complete.  Here is the WEEK FIVE LINK.

Brazos Blooms Quilt Retreat

This time of year, the months go screaming by and it seems as though one might think we are always at retreat.  Well, in all fairness, they are definitely more frequent during February-May.  I think we have a total of 28 retreats days during this time.  Almost a month.  Wow.  At any rate, here I go again -- off to Brazos for days of fun with friends.

Day 1 - I was terribly remiss this morning.  No pictures of departing, arriving, setting up, etc.  Hmmm.  I'm not sure why that is but I will try to do better the remaining time here.

Darlene has just arrived and I am now running for my camera.  It is her birthday -- no, I didn't know -- and she has walked in with her own cake.  Her daughter made this for her birthday present and she brought it to share with all of us.  Isn't it just incredible?

Texas Tumbleweeds Week Six and Finale

The FINALE!!  Six weeks and a top.  How cool is this?  I have high hopes to at least complete the top this month.  Quilting is not likely as I'm traveling a bit, but even still --- I'm moving along.

3/7  Okay so I am cheating just a little bit today.  I have some time and get the center laid out (Yes, there are some turned blocks.  I found them when picking it all up.) and stacked in wonderful rows for webbing when I get the chance.   What do you think?

Girlfriends and The Dallas Quilt Show

Yay!!!  A day with Girlfriends is the BEST kind of day.  Okay, okay -- days with family are pretty amazing too.  Stephannie has put together a breakfast at Mama's Daughter's Diner for everyone to meet and visit before the Dallas Quilt Show begins.  Sherri and I are the first to arrive and followed shortly by Suzanne.

And then by everyone else.  Where is Stephannie, you ask?  Well, she didn't have nice words to say about the traffic when she finally did arrive, however almost everyone had already left to attend the show.  We'll meet up with her again later.  (Yes, two pictures.  I like parts of both so couldn't cut one.)

Starting in lower left corner and going around the table:  Kelly, I'm the empty space, Suzanne, Lydia, Kailey (being a bit shy with mom) Kelsey, Rusty, Anna, Debbie, Sherri, and Cheryl.

Plano Quilt Guild - Maria Presenting

Ms. Maria is presenting for the Plano Guild tonight.  Sherri is coming into town for the Dallas Quilt Show tomorrow.  It just makes sense for the two of us to go and support her.  Right?

We leave a bit early for the meeting in order to avoid traffic and also have some dinner.  It works out perfect and we are right on time for the gig.  Maria arrives just after us and once she is ready, we sit down for the first half of tonight's agenda.

It's fun to be with other friends as well and Janet (who has had her cast iron pot delivered to -- don't ask) is even center stage for a bit.  Right after her --- they show all these amazing quilts in which the blocks were created during their retreat.  How crazy fun is this?

Texas Tumbleweeds Week Five

Week Five of our Bonnie Hunter Texas Tumbleweeds Quilt-A-Long arrives and I have wonderful news to report!  I finished last years Quilt-A-Long.  Yippee!!!  Aren't ya'll just so proud of me?  Now, onto this week's step.

We are taking the units from last week and turning them into a giant four-patch.  Yep, that's all there is to it and I am ready to go.
