Minding My P's and Q's Retreat - Bonnie Hunter Daybreak Class

It is COLD!!!  Day three has arrived and the weather is keeping us inside.  However, DAYBREAK (Bonnie Hunter String Frenzy book) is upon us and we are ready to rock and roll.  I've switched up the colors on this quilt a bit and am going with lavender so we shall see how that plays out.  A couple morning pictures and it's time to start.

Minding My P's and Q's Retreat - Bonnie Hunter Sand Castles Class

It's Day TWO!!  Well, truthfully, it's Day Six, but the second class.  Up today is Sand Castles from Bonnie Hunter's String Frenzy book.  I have loved this pattern since the very first time I saw her working on these blocks.  I KNEW I would make it and today is the time to get started.  Sooooo --- without further ado, let's get this class going.

Minding My P's and Q's Retreat - Bonnie Hunter Xing Class

It's been two years of drought in the Bonnie Hunter class division.  I am in big need of a fix and starting today, I have four solid days of classes ahead of me.  To say that I am excited is a crazy understatement.  My hotel is booked, the projects are packed and I'm ready to go ---- at 6 a.m.  It's time to hit the road again after being home for 18 hours.  I simply dumped the laundry into the washer, then dryer, and back into my suitcase.  No time for decisions right now.  Drive woman, drive.  Denton here I come.

Brazos Extra Retreat - Quilting Bees

Two years in the works!!  Yep, that's right.  I started planning this retreat in February of 2017 while in Temple, TX at another retreat.  We set the dates then and slowly started putting it together, bit by bit.  It seemed like time has crawled until this week.  Now, the rush is on to get everything together.  The time is 6:00 a.m. and I am on my way to Rainbow, TX.  It's time for the Quilting Bees to gather.

My route is slightly different this go round as I am stopping in Hurst to pick up Debi.  Due to a brand new hip, she is not able to drive just yet --- it means I have extra time with her and absolutely no complaints are coming from me on that count.  Upon our early arrival, it's a quick unload and set-up.  In fact, I have almost everything in place by the time Val arrives to help.  I even have time to focus on name tags and have completed most of them by the time people begin to walk through the door.  Let's get this party started.

Lunch with friends is the perfect beginning and Hammonds in Glen Rose is our destination.  I absolutely treasure these times together.  We are able to catch up with everyone's lives and fill our bellies at the same time.  Seven lovely ladies gathered for some down home Texas BBQ.

Brazos House - Live, Laugh, Love Retreat

Round two begins today and we are starting it out right.  Babes!!!  Seriously, what could be better than this?  I adore their chicken and get my fill whenever at retreat.  This time I split an order and manage to put away both pieces so nothing is going back to the house with me.  So, so good.

Originally we were sat at this HUGE table and it was hard to visit with each other.  A nice request and now we are in the lighted gazebo.  Perfect.

From Babes, it's a road trip to Joshua.  Yep, and even then, out to the sticks of Joshua.  Batiks Galore is going out of business (yes, that makes us sad) and is now at 60% off (yes, that makes us happy).  As we drive to it, I can totally understand why it is going out of business.  My goodness, this is not easy to get to.  I can't help but wonder if I lived in the area whether I would have driven out here.  Perhaps that is why they are departing from the retail arena.

The place is still pretty dang stocked with bolts of beautiful fabric and I manage to find several neutrals, blacks, and tone on tones to take home with me.

Brazos House Winter Tweener Time

What exactly is Tweener Time?  I've been asked that quite a bit lately.  Well, in short, it is the time "between" back to back retreats.  I am able to stay at the house and Kay allows a few to stay with me.  They, who pay for BOTH retreats, become the tweeners and for a small additional charge, they can join in for the extra days.  There are quite a few who buy both retreats and then go home in between as well, for I am only allowed a certain number to stay.  Thus, this afternoon (Sunday) our tweener time has arrived.  The house is quiet. Oh so quiet and each person goes about doing their own thing and napping takes a major role.

I have opted to work on my QAYG project and am joining columns and adding sashing.  Karbach Chocolate Stout is on my agenda for the evening and life is just dang good.

Brazos House - Winter Wonderland Retreat

2019 has arrived and enough days have passed to arrive at January 31.  Why is that so special?  Well, it's easy.  It denotes that retreat time has begun once again and this time ---- I get to play for 10 days.  Woot woot.  I have packed and repacked.  Purged and packed some more.  My car is loaded to the gills -- no joke.  It is level all the way through the passenger seat in the front.  Please, please, please let a whole lot less come home with me.

By 8 a.m., I am arriving at my home away from home and it truly does feel like those trips back to see family.  Peace is settling in and even though work is ahead of me, I'm super excited.

Through the gate and here come the donkeys.  Braying and running to say hi.  Ahhhh, my soul.
