Grand Illusion Clue #1 - Bonnie Hunter - Mystery Quilt

The day has finally arrived!  My house is full of family for the holiday weekend and there is even a bed set up in the office so I creep quietly in and peek at my computer oh so early in the morning.  There it is!  The first clue.  Drumroll please . . . Broken Dishes!  I read it quick and then go back to bed to dream of getting started on it.  An hour or so later, I can't stand it anymore so I get up once again and sneak out to the studio (where there are also people sleeping) and quietly get my fabric and rulers.  Back to the office cutting table -- quietly.  I only get a few triangles cut before people wake up and the day starts.  Oh well.

My next opportunity to work on this clue makes it appearance on Sunday evening.  Yes!  A couple of hours later, I am cut and ready to sew first thing in the morning.  Let the fun begin!

Today (Monday) is devoted to Grand Illusion -- oh and washing bedding, towels, etc. from having company all weekend.  First up:  HST's buy the boatload.  Let's get going.

I settle in to watch White Christmas -- ah yes, that will help the mood as I zip these together especially since it is dang cold outside today.

Once I have my ginormous string finished, I figure I should do a little decorating.  After all, tis the season.  Yes, yes I am having a good time today.  Mister teases that I take over every flat spot in the house.  Since I am working in my little mini studio in the office today --- he may be right.  Hence the fabric stacked on the books.

By the time the movie ends, I have finished my HST's.  Yep, these are dang pretty.  Now for the dog ears.  I am once again saving the clippings for a Christmas Ornament.  I am getting quite a collection from these mysteries and want to get a small tree for the studio to hang them all on.  How fun will that be?

Everything is all trimmed up, black squares are sorted, yellow stack is near by and I guess that means I am ready to construct these units.  Once I have a sample made, under the ruler it goes as a guide for the rest.  The halves are going together nice.

Another string of half units.  I am trying to finish before Mister needs to go to bed so that he can do the pictures for me.  With that in mind, I enlist his help.  He counts the remaining HST's to make sure I have enough leftovers and then I set him to snipping the halves apart.

I am so thankful for his willingness to help me out.  As he snips, I am putting together the units as quick as I can.  By the time the news is over, I have accomplished my mission and my tray is full.  These little units are so pretty and I simply cannot wait to see how they play out in the quilt.  Everything sized out perfect and I could not be happier.  Well, almost everything is good.  I am sure some of you eagle eyes found my error unit.  It will get fixed tomorrow.

Clue #1 is finished in time to do the Monday Link-up.  Please link back to Quiltville here.  And you can always find my Grand Illusion posts by clicking the tab at the top of the blog.  Keep creating my friends.

MY ( I am wording it this way because I always make extra units for fun in the back and for variety) piece count thus far:  870 pieces.
