Birdseye Mercantile Spotlight - Avon, Montana

In Montana, the Avon cut-off up to the Swan Valley has been used for many years and this time is no different.  What is different is that Mister spots a quilt shop sign.  I'm in shock.  There can't possibly be much of a quilt shop here.  Well, I was wrong and here is the post to share all about it.

The Birdseye Mercantile is one of only two regular, year-round businesses in Avon.  The other is a cafe.  No grocery store or gas station.  The Mercantile has history that goes back to 1887 - cool right?

Guess what?  The inside is that same step back in time.  Oh goodness, I am in love.

They carry current lines and top designers - so very cool.

There are antiques scattered everywhere and they are used in fabulous ways as display cases, etc.

This building is packed in every nook and cranny, BUT everything is easy to see and find.  It's just beautifully done.  Even the old safe/vault is being used to display fabric.  How much fun is that?

So, I've saved the two best pieces of information for the end of this post.  You had to make it here to find this out.  First, we spoke with Haven while making my purchase of some Jason Yenter fabric and she is a sheer delight to talk with.  Truly, and Mister even found some candy that he is now on the hunt to take home with him.  Secondly, over 95% of the bolts in the store are $10.00 per yard.  Yep, you read that right.  I promise, this is a permanent stop for us when making the trip up once or twice a year.  Not only do you get some of the most beautiful scenery on your drive, but a simply wonderful quilt shop experience as well.  If you get up there, say hi to Haven for us.
