We've decided to make this our last day on the road so just a few stops today in order to get home in time for others to continue on their way. We do a drive-by of The Cave House. "It was built in 1924, as a Chicken Restaurant. Built during prohibition, it was a place you could quench your thirst! It not only has quirky architecture, but it probably best known for its stories, full of interesting and sometimes amusing information." Tours are available and perhaps next time that can happen.
We stop at Oral Roberts University to see The Praying Hands. The hands were originally built outside of the City of Faith Medical and Research Center, a massive modern complex established as a holistic Christian hospital by the ultra religious Oral Roberts University. The sculpture was cast in 1980 in Mexico and shipped to Tulsa in a particularly labor intensive bit of cost-cutting. At 60 feet tall and over 30 tons of pure bronze, the supplicating hands were one of the largest pure bronze statues in the world when built. One hand is from a casting of Oral’s hand and the other is from a casting of his son Richard’s hand.
In 1980, after the imposing hospital citadel was converted mostly to office space. the giant hands were then moved to the entrance of the Oral Roberts University campus where they remain today. The ultra-detailed (if over-sized) hands are forever locked in a prayer that even if it is unanswered, can certainly not be missed. They can even be seen from the airplane when touching down in Tulsa Standing there a looking around, we also see a campus which is full of unique architecture, however, I didn't take any other pictures.
A few items DO go home with me and I love them all. The service here was amazing and everyone just loved the shop. Now to find some lunch and we do a repeat from last year as our trip to The Log Cabin brought us back to a familiar road.
By 3:00 we have this lovely welcome to see.
I'm pretty shopped out, but others do make purchases before we depart. And that's it. We make it back to my house by a little after four, unload, and I send all three on their way home. We've had tracking on each person throughout our trip and I watch to make sure they all make it home safe and then start to go through all my treasures. Well, I think about going through my treasures and, instead, go out with Mister. He is finally feeling a little better after being sick the entire time I've been away. Now to plan our next adventure. Love to all who spent time with me - you are the BEST!!
