2019 June Quilt Update

If you are new to the blog, you may be asking, "just what is a monthly update?"  I decided long ago that I just can't keep up with blogging daily.  I just can't.  Sooooo, what happens is I document a day in my life within one post and if something special happens, a separate post takes place.  See, you can stay caught up with a once a month check and then, if you're interested, see the other posts too.  It's a great system for me.

Sapphire Blues - Summary Page

Five years!!! Wow -- That's almost an anniversary on it's own.  Time has once again flown by us but this year I've had this in the works for awhile.  I was not quite as distracted.  Is this exciting??  I sure hope so as it's gonna be fun.  Let yourself play and please, please, please share what you have done.  I can't wait to see each one.  The first clue goes live September 1st.

Sapphire Blues - Introduction

Sapphire and the color blue tend to be synonymous.  Although many sources claim that its name is of Greek derivation, its root seem most likely to be from ancient Hebrew - which describes it as a deep blue stone.

I've had the pattern for this years mystery for a few months now, but just couldn't find the color inspiration I needed until a trip to Houston last month.  As I wandered the shops in Spring, TX, waiting for something to just jump out at me, I found myself thinking about the upcoming quilt festival down there in November.  It is the 45th Anniversary of the show and they are spotlighting blue and white for their Sapphire Celebration.  Perhaps I should join in.  Add to that, the indigo seemed to be calling my name.

That, all by itself, seems to be a great reason to work with blues this year but . . . there is more . . .

Quilts, The Silk Road, and More Fiber at DMA

The Dallas Museum of Art is on the agenda for today with Jon.  He loves the Creative Arts Center and has made this request.  Once we get there, the center is doing quilting.  HAHAHAHA --- Just squares to lay out and not really challenging enough for him.  We do find a game to play in the center and he not only wins, but annihilates me.

Good Fortune - The REVEAL - Bonnie Hunter - Mystery Quilt

1/4 -- The reveal is out!!  Woohoo.  I only wish I could work on it today, but I'll definitely get to it this week.  I am up to my ears in reorganizing and purging AND I haven't finished clue 7.  It all takes time.

1/7 - I have found my sewing machine again and back at it. Clue 7 is complete and I'm ready to work on the finale.  Woot woot!  Gathering my pieces and parts ----

All Things Fiber - The Christian Dior Exhibit at DMA

Back in May, Mister and I received an invitation (cocktail attire and all) to the Opening Celebration of the Dior Exhibit at the Dallas Museum of Art.  Things being what they normally are, we were in Montana for it and missed out.  However, today I am at least going to see the exhibit.  My daughter, Rhiana, and granddaughters, Elena and Malea, are huge fashion buffs so I have great company to share in this event.

I took A LOT of pictures so that I could share with friends who would likely not have the opportunity to see this in person.   I kept the event brochure so that I can share information with y'all as well.  It's going to be like your own personal showing -- how's that sound?
