Our vacation has us waaaaaay down south along the Mexican border in Terlingua, TX. Driving along the highway, Mister spots this sign and instantly turns into the parking lot.
Now, I KNOW this isn't a fabric shop because, well, I checked ahead for those.
In fact, this is a shop that sells quilts. Lots and lots of quilts. And quilted items. So many items and so many quilts. They are EVERYWHERE. There ARE customers in the store and one lady is helping them -
While the second sits and sews -
I asked lots of questions and discovered that there are about 14-15 quilters in the area and the shop sells their work. Crazy, right? No fabric for MILES, but they do okay. They stop and shop in San Antonio, El Paso, Midland, Odessa ----- bring up a map. It's a LONG drive to any of those, but that's what they do. Wow. As I wander around the shop, I find several quilts that either talk to me because of a method or pattern. Take a peek.
Also, these rugs. They use polyester - think 70s and are really efficient at what they are designed for. Kind of a wow moment. These rugs were being purchased by the people in the store as I wander around. Wanting to help in some way and definitely not needing another quilt, I pick up a little travel case that could be a future retreat project. What a fun find in the middle of basically - nothing.
What fun. That flange on the inside of a block is pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great to find gems in the literal "middle of nowhere?"
