1st -  It's June --- OMG!  We are almost half way through this year already.  Goodness.  It is also one crazy month for us so I may not accomplish much.  I intend to give it the good old college try but am also a realist.  Cross your fingers everyone.  Since school is out, that means that summer camp at my house for grands begins.  Today is day one of session one and I pick up Jared down in West for a week of fun together.  Once we get back home, he builds a man cave under my hand quilt frame and it becomes his new favorite spot.  He wants some quiet time to read and play games so I work on my quiet book pages.  While in Hillsboro, I was able to find some appliques and buttons to give the pages a little added zest.  Now to figure out where to put all of them.

2nd -  Good morning.  I have my blog post from last month up and now am going to work on this quiet book some more.  Jared wants another quiet day and so I am here to oblige.  It's rare  for him to get to just hang out and do nothing.  I am able to totally complete four pages of the quiet book and have many more almost finished.  It's coming together finally.  For the afternoon, Jared and I decide that we need chocolate, chocolate chip cookies.

Disappearing Four-Patch Baby Quilt

My friend Roberta has started a new Facebook group and has issued a challenge for everyone to make either a jelly roll or charm pack quilt.  I don't have any jelly rolls sitting around but I do remember receiving a couple of charm packs as gifts at the last retreats.  I pull them out and see if they will even go together at all.

The colors are bright and look like fun -- perhaps this can be done.  Now what to do with them?  I start sorting them into four-patches and am going to try the disappearing four-patch block.

My Quiet Book Adventure

So I have this crazy idea to make a "quiet book" for my granddaughter as a present for her first birthday.  This should be easy and fun right?  I watch a couple of videos and grab ideas from them and then find Pinterest full of more ideas.  Before I know it, I have written down about 25 "idea" pages.  I head out to the studio to see what I have for background fabric and find lots of broadcloth that needs to be used up.  I have some felt, but head to the store to make sure all colors are present and accounted for.  Then I start cutting.  At first it seems pretty easy --- simple shapes and ideas.  The first day goes well and I have this page to show for it.  The butterfly parts are buttoned on and the shapes velcro on to their mates.  The edges are all hand blanket-stitched and only the pieces actually attached to the broadcloth are machine sewn on.  I will keep that pattern throughout the book.

Day two has me working on a "lacing" page.  The hope is that this book will teach skills as well as provide entertainment.  The other half of the page is a lady bug that zips open and has her spots inside.  Pretty simple, yes?

Let's Rip a Seam!

After discovering that I have to "unstitch" 46 nine-patches, I decide to actually take the time to learn how to use the seam ripper properly.  I'm sitting in an airplane en route to Salt Lake City at 10:00 p.m.  Doesn't that sound like an appropriate time to learn something new?

After practicing the whole flight --- I think I have it down.  This is soooooo much faster than picking out seams or even snipping every 5th one and pulling threads.  AND the tiny threads to pick out are minimal as well.  Here's a quick video my daughter shot after arriving at her house.  Hope it helps.
