Texas Basket Company -- A Little Off Center of Quilting

Our adventure (I know some of you call it a vacation) begins today.  We are on the way to Louisiana, but I read about The Texas Basket Company in Jacksonville, TX and since it's on our way . . .  The only downside is that today is a Saturday and the factory is not operating.  However, that doesn't stop us from looking around.

Houston 2019 - Days 2&3

Time changes this weekend, but for now it is still dark upon waking.  Or am I just up really early?  Look how quiet the streets look.

Houston 2019 Eye Candy - Part 2

I've closed my eyes for a bit and am ready to share Part 2 of the quilts that caught my eye while in Houston at the International Quilt Festival.  If you didn't see Part 1, here is your LINK.  I didn't mention in the previous part, but my friends and I are all decked out in Sapphire clothing to honor the anniversary this year and we are having a blast.  So much love --- Fabric, friends, fun --- all we need is food and it's perfect.

Houston 2019 Eye Candy - Part 1

Houston International Quilt Festival's 45th Anniversary Sapphire Celebration is underway and I am crazy excited to be here.  My eyes cannot hold still for even a second --- there is just so much to see.  Are you ready for some eye candy?  I know I am and I'm so willing to share what turns my head.  I'm not wandering around looking for the ribbon or big money winners --- just what makes me happy or leaves me in awe.  Come along and enjoy.

As our group enters the show, all eyes rise to the ceiling.  Blue and white quilts take center stage and once I pick my jaw back up, the camera comes out.  I managed to lose my copy of just who each of these belong to -- so my apologies to the amazing creators.  This is one of the most magnificent displays I have ever had the pleasure to view.  The center structure holds 120 blue/white quilts with 70 hanging underneath it and 50 more scattered about as part of the exhibit.  This is a total of 240 sapphire quilts and does not include random blue and white quilts that are not part of the exhibit or the minis below.  WOW.  Just WOW.  (There were colored lights waaaay up high, thus giving the pinkish color to these photos.)  Another fun fact, compliments of my friend Val, is that this exhibit will travel for the next couple of years so many of these quilts won't be returned to their owners until 2021 or 2022.

2019 October Quilt Update

Hello and welcome to the tenth Monthly Quilt Update of 2019.  Have you joined us in our theme for this year?  Do you know what it is?  Here is your hint and if you want to know all about it -- here is your LINK.  Always remember that in this group all links open in a separate window so you don't lose your place here AND there are no ads or popups EVER.

If you are new to the blog, you may be asking, "just what is a monthly update?"  I decided long ago that I just can't keep up with blogging daily.  I just can't.  Sooooo, what happens is I document a day in my life within one post and if something special happens, a separate post takes place.  See, you can stay caught up with a once a month check and then, if you're interested, see the other posts too.  It's a great system for me.

Houston 2019 - Day 1 - Happy Halloween

A VERY night has occurred but, by golly, I am on the road towards the Houston International Quilt Festival and watching the sun come up once again.  It's so reassuring each time that it does indeed rise, right?  Check out the way I caught the power lines in this driveby-try to take a picture-moment.  Pretty cool.

Frolic - Introduction - Bonnie Hunter - Mystery Quilt

Happy Halloween!!!  Love, love, love that this begins today.  It is 5 in the morning and I am oh so thankful that Bonnie has posted in the wee hours.  It appears that we are going to "Frolic" in the Texas Wildflowers.  Oh my.  I love this so very much and have wanted to do a quilt in these colors for quite some time.

My car is packed and I'm heading south for the International Quilt Festival in Houston, meeting up with friends in Madisonville in a few short hours.

Once I've retrieved my passengers, our very next stop is at Lowe's in Spring, TX.  One simply cannot just go to festival without the paint chips in hand.  What would I look for?  I am not shopping for anything else this year --- just a few pieces for this mystery and I can't do that without the chips.  A quick dash in the door and straight to the paint department.  Ooooh, Sherri and I are ready to go.  Gwen stops to get a bottle of water and we are outta here.  Yes, I feel a bit guilty for not doing any additional shopping BUT my hubby is in Lowe's weekly.  That helps with the guilt.
