August Color Your World - Purple

August has arrived and that means summer is drawing down.  I have upcoming adventures that are creating excitement and I'll be watching for those purple sunrise and sunsets as I spend some time on the beach this fall.  The Color Your World color for the month is Purple and I have to admit that I have totally fallen in love with this color more and more as I age.  Yep, old ladies love purple apparently.  Further down the post is the monthly project AND your BINGO card for August.  Let's get started and don't forget to grab that cuppa.

Purple is the color of spirituality and imagination.  It inspires us to divulge our innermost thoughts, which enlightens us with wisdom of who we are and encourages spiritual growth.  It is often associated with royalty and luxury, and its mystery and magic sparks creative fantasies.  With all of that, what on earth can be the negative aspects?  Well, apparently it is also associated with being sensitive (why is this always negative?), vigilance (again, ???), immaturity, and being emotional.  Wow.  Who created these connections?

So, what else can we learn about this color from The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair?  Well, did you see The Color Purple?  In it, the character Shug Avery says, "I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it."  I am pretty sure I agree with that.  "The belief that purple is special, and signifies power, is surprisingly widespread."  Take a moment and spend some time with the book ---- it has soooo much more to share.

Look around each day --- find some succulent purple to add to your life.  Whether it be in food or a gemstone, you can't help but smile.

What about these two?  So, so beautiful.

This night sky makes me just want to swoon.  Isn't it romantic?

Sweet, juicy, and oh so easy to get ---- grapes.

And with that ---- this month's table runner - Grapefest - 13" x 49".  Just a simple string project that I created with some graph paper and a bag of purple strings.  Here ya go:  Start with some 5 1/2" foundation pieces.  I like to use financial papers that come in the mail.

Just start stringing.  If this is new to you, start by laying a string down the center of the paper diagonally and placing a second one on top, right sides together.  Stitch a 1/4" seam (just eyeball it) through both fabrics AND the paper.  Open the strips, press, and add another string to each side - continuing until the paper has been covered.

Ahhh, they are all finished.  You need 16 for a runner the size I made.

Now, trim them to 5 1/2".  Aren't they cute?

Layout in whatever pattern you desire.  I went with a something akin to a feather - all pointing the same direction.

Cut 42 - 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" sashing bricks and 27 - 1 1/2" conerstone squares.  From here I webbed the whole runner at once.

Everything is pressed and ready for the next step.

Take your backing and batting and lay out the sandwich.

Quickly quilt it up and add some binding.  TA-DONE.  This one goes super quick and gives that instant gratification we all crave.  Have fun with it.

With that --- we've arrived at this month's BINGO card.  Have you managed to get a BINGO yet?  This month is a mixture of sewing and life.  Have fun and see you next month.  What will our color be?
