Sapphire Blues - Clue 9

Oooooooh, it's getting close now!!!!  Are you ready to really see some forward movement?  Did you have a good week?  I am in Montana ---- Big Sky Country!!!  That means lots and lots of blue for me.

Now, back to the task at hand.  It's a crazy simple week.  Honest.  However, there is a tiny bit of cutting required and read all the way through first, pretty please.

FROM SCRAPS IF POSSIBLE:

1.  Using 2" strips facing each other, cut FOUR pair of light blue/dark blue half square triangles using the Easy Angle ruler.  If using regular rotary cutting, you will need 2 squares of each light and dark blue that are 2 3/8" and then cut on the diagonal.

2.  Using 2" dark blue strips -- cut 4 - 2" x 3 1/2" bricks and 4 - 2" x 5" brics.

3.  Using 2" neutral (white) strips - cut 4 - 2" x 3 1/2" bricks.  (I know, I should have had you cut these back in clue 4.  I apologize.)

FIND the last 4 2" neutral (white) squares that you cut in clue 2.  This is what you should have now.

Now to make 4 little units.

Unit 13 - Make 4

First --- make the four light blue/dark blue half square triangles.  They should finish at 2".

Next - add the neutral squares.

Lay out like so --- make sure the light blue triangle is AWAY from the neutral square.

Now for our neutral bricks.

We will add them to the left side as shown, making sure the light blue triangle is in the upper right corner.  It's a familiar log cabin from here out.

They're looking cute.  But wait --- there's more.

The dark blue 2 x 3 1/2" bricks are up next.

Keeping the same perspective on the little block.  This new brick will go on the bottom as shown.  The little blue triangle is still in the upper right corner.

Fun times.  Yep, some of mine are off.  Oh well, I'll fix it in trimming later.

Last --- those dark blue 2 x 5" bricks.  We'll add them to the left, as shown.

And we have 4 cute little units.  Yay!!!  See, all trimmed up.  These should be 5" square.

Okay --- let's grab our Unit 12's from Clue 7.  It's time to make some magic.

Lay out two like this -- side by side.  Do you see the ribbon starting to form?

Simply flip the right side over the left, line up the seams and go.

You are going to make FOUR borders this way --- The sides will contain 14 Unit 12's and the top/bottom will each have 12.  Yes, that adds up to 52 and you have 56 units.  I made a mistake.  This lets you choose the 4 you are most unhappy with and eliminate them.  Better to have too many than too few.  NOW -- with that being said, you can always alter the final quilt setting to use them if you really want to.

Line up the next group

And go until you have all four border strips.

SO . . . . Don't count mine.  I discovered I had too many AFTER I took the picture.

If you webbed, separate the sides from the top bottom sections and retrieve your Unit 13's from the beginning of this clue.  They are your cornerstones.

Using the shorter strips:  the left sides of the border strip will look like this:  ONE going each way for the top and bottom.

The right sides like this:  ONE going each way again.

Stitch on your cornerstones.

And that's it for this week.  I was not a good girl and neglected to take a picture of the finished border strips -- mostly because I was a very unhappy girl to discover that I had miscalculated.  Oh well, it is what it is.  You're gonna love these so much.
