2019 August Quilt Update

Hello and welcome to the eighth Monthly Quilt Update of 2019.  Have you joined us in our theme for this year?  Do you know what it is?  Here is your hint and if you want to know all about it -- here is your LINK.  Always remember that in this group all links open in a separate window so you don't lose your place here AND there are no ads or popups EVER.

If you are new to the blog, you may be asking, "just what is a monthly update?"  I decided long ago that I just can't keep up with blogging daily.  I just can't.  Sooooo, what happens is I document a day in my life within one post and if something special happens, a separate post takes place.  See, you can stay caught up with a once a month check and then, if you're interested, see the other posts too.  It's a great system for me.

Quilt Sister Cruise #1 - Days Eight and Nine - Sea Day and Home

It turns out that we are ALL burnt --- well almost all of us.  It's going to be a very calm sea day, spent visiting and hiding from the sun.  Locating a spot in the marketplace on lido, we gather to sew, talk, share, laugh, and enjoy.  It even requires us to move a few times to let everyone gather round.  A few are still wandering around or competing in a slots tourney.  Go Maria -- we are rooting for you.  Don't count on a lot of picture today.  I'm moving slow and trying not to even have my clothes touch my skin anymore than necessary.

Quilt Sister Cruise #1 - Day Seven - Cozumel

OMG!!!  The day I have been waiting for the most has finally arrived.  Our port is Cozumel and when we first decided on this cruise, I selected the excursion that was on my bucket list.  Cenotes and not just any cenote, but specifically, A Blue Hole.  Let this day begin.

Rocky and I meet up on deck and decide to eat out on deck.  Oh wow.  We discover that EVERY lounge chair on deck is decorated with a towel animal.  It is just so cool that we stop and take photos for a really long time.  I have tons, but will just share the overall effect in this post.

Quilt Sister Cruise #1 - Day Five - Jamaica

It's our first excursion day!!!  Hello Jamaica.  As I wake, Rocky sends a message wondering if I'm up yet.  Well, yes, and I'm dressing to join her.  Up on Lido, you can see Jamaica in the distance and we find a table where we can watch our approach and have some breakfast.

Quilt Sister Cruise #1 - Day Four - Sea Day

Our second Sea Day dawns and I want to start it out in the dining room.  Something luscious to begin the day.  Also, I have my new list in hand and am ready to rock this scavenger hunt.

A crazy, delicious yogurt parfait arrives, with coffee and is followed up by bacon and a skillet cake that is literally to die for.  So, so good.  I wish they still sold cookbooks like they used to.  I really want this recipe.  This is also check mark #2 - my breakfast plate.

Quilt Sister Cruise #1 - Day Three - Sea Day

It's a SEA DAY!  We have the entire day to just explore the ship, visit with one another, eat, nap, and play the Scavenger Hunt that Debi handed out last night.  I start the day peeking to see if I've missed the sunrise entirely.  It's definitely up, but still gorgeous out.  Hey, I spy another ship.

Quilt Sister Cruise #1 - Day Two - Setting Sail

A great night's sleep, a wonderful breakfast, and some crazy games of car Tetris find us on our way.

The plan is for everyone to meet up at the parking lot and board the ship together.  Four of our ladies went home with Frieda last night so their route is a bit different than ours and we will see them there.  Look ---- I see a ship.  Yes, we are getting closer now.  Perfect.  As we gather waiting for the shuttle, I walk over and try for a better pic.

Quilt Sister Cruise #1 - Day One - Houston at Val's

So, the story goes like this:  Fifteen months ago a group of us were sitting in a room talking and the subject of a cruise came up.  A little research gave us some dollar numbers and dates.  More discussion and the decision was made right then and there.  Book it Danno.  And we did.  As we booked, we paid and then started watching the calendar.  And watching, and watching, and watching.  It was a long 15 months, but it's here at last.  I am packed and ready to go.  We have matching T-Shirts, tiaras and a wonderful Bon Voyage party being hosted by Randy and Val tonight in Houston.  It's time to get this show on the road.  Lydia and I are in car one --- and we're off.

Quilt Plano 2019 - Feast for the Eyes

Five thirty a.m. and the alarm is quietly letting me know that it's time to get up.  No, this is not normal for me but today is special.  I am meeting friends for breakfast and following that up with the Plano Quilt Show.  (I also have a Red Hat event today so am wearing a dress, but that is another story for another post.)  Some traditions must be maintained and Poor Richard's Cafe is one of those.  Since I have arrived a few minutes early, this section on the menu has caught my attention.  As I read, Brenda and Sam arrive and lost time is made up.  It's so fun to chat and enjoy one another.  We have an hour and a half to do just that.  Simply wonderful!!  What a great way to start the day.  It's sad to say good-bye to Brenda, but we are thankful she took the time to share this morning.  Onto the show.

Cabbage Rose Quilt Shop - Fort Worth

The girls and I have just spent such a great time at the Kimball Museum viewing the Monet exhibit (if you are so inclined, here is the LINK) and now would like to pet some pretty colored fabric.  It turns out that Cabbage Rose is only about 5 minutes away and that makes it a hot ticket for us.  Zoom, zoom, zoom.

As we walk in, the happiest sound greets us:  Almost everything in the store is 30% off.  Wow.  Everyone scatters off in search of their dream items.  I am simply looking for some "batty" fabric but time in the store is spent looking at each nook and cranny.  The coolest pennant strings are draped all through the building and, oh my, I do have an idea for this.  Stay tuned Brazos girls.

Claude Monet - The Later Years - A Study of Color for Us

Last spring, a trip to the mall provided me with THIS!!  Oh my.  Monet is my all-time fav.  Truly.  I started spreading the word and an event for our group was planned.  Today, it is happening.  Sherri is in the house, we are picking up Stephannie on the way to Fort Worth and meeting Lana and Diane.  YES!  Let's do this.
