2019 March Quilt Update

Learning at On Rotation

While at On Rotation this evening, a local silk screen artist is making shirts on site.  I decide to investigate and get a chance to speak with Bryan from Pint Services.  He and a partner own the company and specialize in working with breweries and tap rooms.  The designs are his and after talking with him for a bit, I ask if he can do multi color.  He can and so we discuss creating panels on cotton for quilting/sewing.  He had no idea there was a market out there.  Keep your eyes open -- Bryan may appear on the quilt scene at some point.

I took a quick video of him applying the plastic to a couple of shirts.  Once the plastic is spread, it enters an oven and is baked at a temperature of no less that 370 degrees to set the plastic.  Anything less than that and it will continue to be wet.  It's always fun to learn in unexpected settings and ways.

Brazos House - Texas Spring Retreat

Spring is just around the corner and with it comes our March retreat, aptly named "Texas Spring."  It appears that this year will be a grand year for our state flower, the bluebonnet, and I can't wait for a road trip to see the beauty it will provide.  For now, we will bring on the season in our own way - with laughter, love, and wildflower fabric.  I am on the road before the sun is up and well on my way before it starts its ascent.  Ahhhh, I love this sight.  (Quick shot over the shoulder without looking.)

JP's Quiet Book

With a grandson turning one in March, I am trying to get a jump on his quiet book.  I know it seems odd to be working on it already, but I am always in a time crunch at the end and the hope is that if I do this over time, that won't happen.  That IS the hope --- we shall see how it goes.

8/1 - I have selected all the designs I wish to use.  Once again, there are 20 pages and some are just too fun.  I'm already excited.  Mind you, I have simply made a list of what I want to do.  Hahahahaha.

8/4 - Out to the studio for solid broadcloth pieces that will work as page backgrounds.

Dallas Quilt Show

Today is "Fun With Friends" Day.  Or, in other words, The Dallas Quilt Show.  Each year Stephannie plans a meet-up that includes food and so much eye candy that I would be a fool to miss out.  The Original Market Diner is our meeting ground and when Tracey arrives, she has my new bracelet finished.  Ooooooh, I love it and can't wait for the first Red Hat event to wear it to.

Yes, I know this is about quilting, but my quilting friends are talented in so many way.  It's fun to see each facet and support one another whenever possible.  At first there are six of us at the restaurant, but we soon fill up the tables with the addition of three more.

Minding My P's and Q's Retreat - Bonnie Hunter Straits of Mackinac Class

Drat --- the dreaded LAST day has arrived.  I'm super sad, but crazy exhausted as well.  It has been a whirlwind week and I've loved every minute even though I'm starting to miss my sweetie.  Today is Straits of Mackinac in String Frenzy by Bonnie Hunter.  I have adored this block for the past two years as she was working on this at a retreat in Temple, TX at that time.  Now, it's my turn to work on it and the clock says the class is about to start.  Out to the lobby we go for the first of our demos.  It's the best time of each day, getting perhaps one little tidbit that is new and exciting.  It never fails to happen for me.
