It's a bit of a walk from our last location, but Mister is really encouraging us to get with it and fit one more thing in.
Off we go and when we arrive, we discover that there are really two museums there and we could spend all day but only have a little over an hour left in this wonderful city.
Upon our entry, it's pretty clear that they are really focusing on silk and that makes all kinds of sense.
The works are incredible, but the lighting is a bit tough and EVERYTHING is in French. I can grab words here and there but not the overall message and we don't really have time to translate it all with our app. So --- eye candy it is. What do you think of the embroidery on this one? It's from the 1800's.
How about the close ups"
A cool machine is spotlighted in the next room. It is a Mechanical Jacquard Machine and creates textiles with complex patterns, such as brocades. This particular one is from 1889-1891.
Rooms of huge silk tapestries.
I LOVE these. The one on the right -- oh I wish the lighting had been better.
Silk gowns
Boots and a parasol all from silk and an incredibly embroidered butterfly with silk thread on silk.
More gowns
And the closest thing I could find to quilting -- a patchwork silk jacket.
Another wonderful old loom ---- ooooooh --- it's still in process from it's last task.
Well, we are out of time, but this is definitely a great museum. Perhaps next trip as I know we will return to this wonderful city. Now, onto Paris.
