February Color Your World - Pink

 

Welcome to February of 2022 AND Color Your World!!  I am loving this new theme so very much and am ready to move to our next color.  This month we are going to explore PINK - go figure, it's February, right?   Our monthly project is featured here along with a BINGO card for those who wish to play.  I'll also have several PINK blocks in Pat Sloan's sew-a-long, but she'll be using yellow and we'll get that in another month.  Mine will be the pinks this month.  So, here ya go and enjoy --- oh yeah, grab that cuppa.

I am still enjoying The Secret Lives of Color by Kassia St. Clair and am constantly sharing the little tidbits I've learned.  Here are a few to share:  "Different things are different colors because they absorb some wavelengths of the visible light spectrum, while others bounce off.  So the tomato's skin is soaking up most of the short and medium wavelengths - blues and violets, greens, yellows and oranges.  The remainder, the reds, hit our eyes and are process by our brains.  So, in a way, the color we perceive an object to be is precisely the color it isn't - that is, the segment of the spectrum that is being reflected away."  Woah!!

Pink is feminine and sweet.  It is the color of nurture and unconditional love, but, unlike red, pink is more about romance than passion.  White added in makes pink a calming color that comforts those who have obstacles ahead of them because it is incredibly positive and sparks hope.  Hence, the pink ribbon for breast cancer.

As with other colors, once can see that pink appears naturally quite often.  It has a glory all of its own and does bring that calmness to mind.

When reading in the book, this was brought up as well and I hadn't thought of it this way before:

"It is an odd quirk that while light reds acquired a name of their own, pale greens and yellows did not for the most part (although several languages, including Russian, do have different words for pale and deep blues)."

There is a special sweetness about pink and whether you love or dislike the color personally, search out the words about it and try not to picture a lake of Pepto Bismol above.  Hahahaha.  I'm working at it.

That brings us to this month's table topper and here is the Pattern LINK .  It is called "Love to Pieces" and just ticks the box for "simple strip piecing" for the most part.  This is quick and easy, I promise.

Firs thing --- select your fabrics.

And get everything cut.  I even did the backing and batting while I was at it.

Just jump in get the units made.

You'll have a top in no time - put the sandwich together

and start in with some simple cross hatching - right on your domestic.  I use blue painter's tape to mark the lines I need to follow.

First one direction and then the other --- 

Trim it up, add the binding and it's ready for a wee bit of handwork.

With a TA-DA - (well, almost, I just noticed the thread hanging there).

Add in a centerpiece and we're ready for the holiday or just to celebrate PINK this month.
