Unity Quilt-A-Long - Bonnie Hunter Mystery - Week 2

Borders!  Borders! Borders!  I do enjoy adding borders but so many I know don't.  If that is you, then this quilt is likely pushing you a bit.  A medallion quilt typically is round after round after round, although not always.  I have designed a few that didn't work that way, but for the most part -- welcome to borders!

4/6 - This is week 2 of the Bonnie Hunter Unity Quilt-A-Long.  I have a bit on my plate today with mask making for my very large family, but do manage to get the pieces cut out.  I am SO crazy thankful for the Scrap Users System that I have in place.  I really only had to cut the triangles from strips already on hand.  That makes life so much easier. 

4/7 - One batch of masks made it to the mail today and I'm awarding myself a bit of time to work on these pieces.  The geese and HST's are together and then I discover that I have pulled the wrong color of larger squares.  Well, back to the box and that's it for today.

4/8 - I am hitting this hard today.  My second set of masks is in the mail and I want to focus here.  The first step for today are the square-in-a-squares.  I have to tell y'all that I have made a LOT of these and never knew the rockstar pressing techniques that Bonnie has shared in this pattern.  OH MY --- what a game changer.

 Once the blue and greens are complete, it onto the second set - blue and neutral.  Woohoo!  I finally have all my parts complete.  It's time to build not one, or two, or three, but four borders for this week.  Webbing is the method of choice on these.  I love how quickly they come together.  Blue and yellow are so pretty together --- why have I never made a quilt with these two colors alone?

 The first round goes one.  Everything fit well and it's looking fun.

Onto the second border and here is where the pressing awe I mentioned before truly sets in.  This is amazing and I'm thrilled to have learned it.  These borders go on quick as can be too. 

Even though I'm getting tired and have been sewing all day, I am driven to finish this part today.  The third round gives me a bit of a challenge as I used some of the flying geese that were for it in round 1.  I missed the whole HST doubles part. 
It is what it is -- remember, this is my imperfect quilt for an imperfect time in our life.  I simply create more geese out of the HST's in this last round and I'm good to go.  Everything fits perfect, the last round is added, and part 2 is done.  See ya'll next week.
