Garden Party Clue 6 - Bonnie Hunter - Plano Mystery Quilt -- REVEAL

March 7, 2017  Oh happy day!  The final step is here and I seriously couldn't be happier.  Yes, I know that it actually posted a few days ago, BUT today is the first chance I have to make some progress.  Rising first thing in the morning, I am trying to get a few things done including make breakfast for my sweetheart, but I just keep laying down blocks until my living room floor is filled.  It looks oh so fun.

After feeding my sweet Mister, I move my machine over into the corner by the window as it is the only spot available and decide that I kind of like it here.  Now to get these rows together.  It's another on-point layout and that means no webbing this go round.  The advantage to on-point is that I press like a wild woman when each row is complete.

I work this as Bonnie suggests, one half at a time and soon have the first corner in place.  Oooh, oooh, oooh.  This is gonna be purty and I am on a mission to get at least one half finished today.   Just as my sweetie finishes work, I have met my goal and am very happy so far.  The only stumbling blocks are when I find a unit turned, ugh.  At least they are few and far between.

March 8, 2017 -- I have set a time limit today.  The second half needs to be made AND joined together by noon.  With that in mind, I am at the machine before 8.

Allison is coming over tomorrow for a sew day and I want this off the floor so we have room to set up.

To my wonder and amazement - I walk away from ironing the last seem at 12:01 p.m.  Yes!

March 16. 2017 -- It's been 8 days since I worked on this and I have been to the Dallas Quilt Show and four days in D.C. since then.  Now??  I'm at retreat and this is the only project I brought other than slippers.  It's time to get the borders on.

First things first.  I have to trim all the points off the edges before a border can go on.  My sweet man wanted to know why as he like the pointy edge.  I told him to try and bind it.  Goodness.  Once the edges are trimmed, I am ready for the next step.

I purchased a light batik while at the quilt show.  It has purple running through it so I thought it would be perfect.  I am not disappointed once it is on, BUT my quilt now reads "white" to me, not purple at all.  That's it for today.

March 17, 2017 Happy St. Patrick's Day.  I bought the most luscious purple fabric for my outer border and can't wait to cut into it.  Five inches of sheer beauty and hopefully the top will read "purple" once more.

Since it's retreat, I take a few minutes to teach how to put on borders, using the method Bonnie taught me, and look here - they are on in no time and I DO love it so very much.  Now for the next step.

I had gathered three flower/garden themed panels and brought along some leftover batik from previous backs to see what I can free flow together.

The back goes together quick but I forget to take a picture so this one is after I get home from retreat.  Oops.  I like it but wish I'd had more of the blue watery fabric.  Oh well.  It's out of the stash and into use.

Now for binding.  What color should this be?  Yellow!

Okay, that's as far as I've gotten.  Quilting will happen when I have a few days at home and I'm not real sure when that will be.  Likely after the first of April at the earliest.  At this point -- I have a top, back, binding, and label complete and that makes me content for now.

I'll update after quilting takes place.  Until then -- keep creating and if you want to make this quilt, the pattern can be found in Bonnie Hunter's Addicted to Scraps or the May/June 2015 issue of Quiltmaker magazine.
