Grand Illusion Clue #2 - Bonnie Hunter - Mystery Quilt

It's Friday and do you know what that means?  Clue 2, Clue 2.  It is 3:30 in the morning and I am awake.  Do you think it is there?  I'd better go look and see.  Nope.  Maybe I'll hang out for awhile.  4:00 - nope.  Should I give up.  I'll give it one more half hour.  4:30 -- YES!  The new clue!  Woohoo.  After reading it twice as requested, I realize that I just did these same blocks a few weeks ago.  AND -- there were a bazillion of them in Lazy Sunday.  I have got this.  Back to bed.

I get up a few hours later and start cutting neutrals right away.  Thanks to Bonnie's Scrap User's System --- I have stacks of strips already cut and only have to add a few more to get the variety I need.  I think there are over 80 different neutral fabrics on this step.  I am choosing option 3 on method for this clue.  It gives me the bonus triangles and I like that.

Now to go and check the FB page to see exactly what time I have people arriving for the Mystery Sit and Sew.  OMG -- I have one in half an hour and I am not even set up yet.  Get a move on girl.  What on earth were you thinking?  Where do I start?  I thought I had everything under control and guess what?  I don't.

After literally destroying the mini station in the office and dragging lights and ironing boards from the back, I have chose to work in the living room today.  I am no sooner set up and Laurie arrives.  We are both cutting today so not a single sewing machine makes an appearance.  We have a great visit and after a couple of hours, Candy arrives as well.  She, too is cutting and uses her entire time here to get both Clues 1 and 2 cut.  Meanwhile, I cut all the squares for the clue out of pink and black and start the oh so tedious but oh so important step of drawing lines.  Mister arrives home and we call it a day.  I am not all marked but have a good start.

The evening is spent sewing pink squares to my rectangles.  Since those lines are all drawn, I can move forward with pink.

Yesterday was a bust -- no work on the clue but today is Sunday and I am determined.  Mister is watching something so I have some time to myself before our afternoon activity.  What can I get done?  I am back to my pink squares and working on the second set of lines.  Yes!  A wonderful chain of blocks is on the floor.  Should it be?  I don't think so.  Perhaps it would look much better draped on Mister.  He didn't think so and hid his face.  Party pooper.

Next step is to separate the block from the bonus triangle.  I have stacks of pretty pink and white fabric to work on.  Now to iron.  I get all the blocks pressed, including the bonus HST's and start marking the black squares while Mister is kind enough to cut the dog ears on my HST's.  What a terrific partner I have.   It's time to call it a night.

Okay -- Monday morning!  I want this finished today.  Period.  I have a ton of Christmas stuff to finish and cannot do that if I am still working on these.  It's a self-control thing.  Since I finished marking all of the black squares last night, I am able to start sewing those on right away.  First the block line, then the bonus triangle one.  Yes, my chain is growing.  I am watching Hook on Netflix and smiling as I work away.  By the time the movie is over, I have attached all of the black squares, sewn the bonus seams, and cut everything apart.  It is now time to press again and trim dog ears. Looking good -- yes?

I am ready to put these puppies together.  First one -- does it match?  Do I need to adjust seam?  Nope -- perfect.  Let's chain and go.

By 4:00 --- yep, it has been an ALL day project -- I am finished.  I love how they turned out and since Mister is on his way home, pictures will be developed right away.  Woo hoo.  Thanks for checking in on Clue 2.  Please link back to Bonnie here so that you can check out everyone else's blogs and pictures.  This is just so much fun.  You can always find my Grand Illusion posts by clicking the tab at the top of the blog.  See you next week and keep creating.

MY (I am wording it this way because I always make extra units for fun in the back and for variety) piece count thus far:  1,530 plus 880 in my bonus HST's.  Cool.
